Résumé
Monday, the 2nd of June saw ALFA 3 – the third English literature salon in the Convento São José in Lagoa.
Barbara Fellgiebel presented the concept of ALFA – Europe’s most south western literature salon, rewarded the right answers to linguistic questions with hazardously thrown sweets and recommended books of her choice a.o.:

Long time Algarve resident Jenny Grainer described how she became the author of the book Portugal and the Algarve now and then and took the audience back into the not so swinging 60’s of Algarvian rural life giving a touching insight into the pros and cons of so called progress.
Needless to say, her book sold out in no time.
During the 20 min. break, there was time to buy new and second hand books (charity sale for Castelo de sonhos), enjoy the latest exhibition in the Convento’s Art Gallery, as well as the delicious eats and drinks provided by Catrin George (yes, next time you may come at 7 pm with a healthy appetite!), the smirting (you will have to attend in order to find out what that is) and the social mingling.
In part 2, Peter Moore presented his latest book 2030 the lottery, in which a disillusioned Tony Blair, President of the EU, kills himself in his old office in No. 10. Britain is controlled by the ID card, the Iraq war is still raging and everybody lives too long.
The stormy discussion his provocative presentation led to, could still be going on…
Unfortunately, there were no copies of the book for sale – but in July, there will be!
Like last time: lovely, encouraging reactions, inspired and inspiring.

Exhibition news: the interactive* ALFA-Blue-Garden-Exhibition will take place 9th August – 15th September in the Convento S. José.
